A new book spine poem. My shelves have been nudging me.
Useless Crazy Heart
All about love, the devil I know,
Style, solace, the entwining truth,
Conquest of the useless crazy heart,
The pleasure of finding things out.
Thanks to the authors: bell hooks, Claire Kilroy, Joseph M. Williams, Belinda McKeon, Richard Condon, Peter Temple, Werner Herzog, Thomas Cobb, and Richard Feynman; and to Nina Katchadourian for the idea.
Want to join in? Do – it’s all sorts of fun. Upload a photo and post a link in the comments, or put it on your own site, etc. If you’d like to see more of these, there are lots in the Sentence first bookmash archive.

My new bookmash is more a story fragment than a found poem. But the format remains the same.
I am Mary Dunne,
The fifth child, Liza,
Earthbound the beginning of spring –
Almost there, in other words.
I’m not scared.

Thank you to the authors: Brian Moore, Ira Levin, Doris Lessing, Ivan Turgenev, Richard Matheson, Penelope Fitzgerald, Nuala O’Faolain, C.J. Moore, Niccolò Ammaniti, and Claire Kilroy; and to Nina Katchadourian for the idea.
Bookmashes are great fun to make, so feel free to add one to the thread below or let me know if you post one elsewhere. They work best with a photo, but it’s not essential. There are lots more in the bookmash archive, including links to other people’s.

Return (All Summer)
All summer a place apart,
Remembering light and stone,
Fences and windows
The way that I went –
Now that you’re back.
You can find previous bookmash poems here, including links to other people’s. The idea came from Nina Katchadourian’s Sorted Books project.
Featured authors: Claire Kilroy, Dervla Murphy, Deirdre Madden, Naomi Klein, Robert Lloyd Praeger, James Baldwin, A. L. Kennedy.
